| The actual events in this novel are based on the true story of myself: (thirty-two) and my four children (three girls ages three, four, eight and a mentally handicapped boy age six.) A dramatic change occurred in my life in an instance after my wife and the mother of these children abandoned them without as much as saying a simple good-bye. She seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth. It would be some fifteen-years before she would make one last attempt to contact since the desertion and then disappeared again. After she had abandoned us, our lives would take a turn for the worse. We were homeless, hungry and rejected by our own family who put us out into the cold winter streets. We were brutally terrorized by neighbors. We had to walk five miles across snow-packed roads, through freezing temperatures to buy our groceries, as well as walk late at night another five miles through brutal cold temperatures to a hospital when one of the children had become ill, only to be turned away. This story ends with my losing all four children. |
